Originally titled "Guardian", this is one of the best-loved hardcovers under his own name. The initial printing was 75,000 copies, so first editions are not difficult to locate, but the public's love of the book drives the cost higher than it should be, though still within the casual collector's price range. It was made into a lousy movie in 1988 with two lousy sequels. If you absolutely must rent one, try "Watchers II", as that one stays closer to the book. In a perfect world, all trace of these three movies would disappear.

You have a first edition if there is a $17.95 price on the upper inside front of the dustjacket, an "8702" date code on the lower inside front of the dustjacket and the number series "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10" printed on the copyright page.
