The paperback is the true first edition of this, the fourth Leigh Nichols title, and is fairly easy to locate. The trade, numbered and lettered editions contain the complete text as Koontz intended it to be published. The trade edition hardcover and the numbered have identical dustjackets; the difference being that the numbered edition was issued with a slipcase and a different binding, including a signed limitation page. The lettered edition came with a wooden traycase and was issued without a dustjacket. Both the trade edition and the numbered edition are fairly difficult to locate, and the lettered is even harder to find. The price of the trade edition is usually reasonable but the price for the numbered is to the higher end of the casual collector's range. As for the lettered edition, expect to pay even more. It was revised and reissued in paperback as "The Servants of Twilight" under Koontz's name by Berkley Books in 1990. In 1992 it was released as a TV movie starring Bruce Greenwood and Jarrett Lennon.

You have the first paperback edition if it states "First Pocket Books printing November, 1984" and the number series "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1" is printed on the copyright page.
