Synopsis
Michelina (Micky) Bellsong is having a life crisis when she meets Leilani
Klonk, a 9-year old with birth defects. Convinced that Leilani's life is
endangered by her psychopathic stepfather, Preston Maddoc, and drug casualty
mother, Sinsemilla, Micky decides to protect Leilani. Meanwhile, a strange
orphan boy is headed towards Nun's Lake, Idaho with his adopted dog. In a
coincidence too great to occur anywhere other than a novel, Micky learns that
Nun's Lake is where Maddoc plans to murder Leilani. Of course, the paths of all
these characters must cross at the point where Koontz plies his trademark
science fiction twist, reminiscent of "Strangers".
My Rating = C + "One Door Away From Heaven" moves slower than many Koontz novels. While a less than stellar Koontz novel is still better than a good book from most other authors, I was ultimately disappointed. This novel just isn't nearly as believable as "Strangers" or "Watchers" and seems to run long. Book Information
"One Door Away From Heaven" was never released in a limited edition, signed or
otherwise. The trade first edition was released in such quantity that its
collectability is virtually nil.
