The original title of this book was Lightning Road . The lettered edition was bound in full leather and was issued without a dustjacket. If you locate a copy it will be prohibitively expensive. The numbered edition of this book ranks as one of the less impressive. I included the spine in the scan so that you can draw your own conclusion. It was released without a dustjacket, and also without a slipcase. The only reason it has any sustained value as a collectible is because it is signed. Despite its scarcity, it has not grown in value much. I suspect this may be because it was printed from the same plates as the trade hardcover, although it has marbled covers, better binding and a signed limitation page. The 110,000 copy trade first is plentiful and should be fairly inexpensive. As a bookseller at the time, I can attest to the fact that Lightning would have been an even bigger seller if there hadn't been severe problems restocking it.

You have the first trade edition if there is an $18.95 price on the upper front inside of the dustjacket, an "8801" date code on the lower front inside of the dustjacket and if it has the number series "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10" beneath the words "Printed in the United States of America" on the copyright page.
