The paperback is the true first edition of this, the third Leigh Nichols title,
and is fairly easy to locate. The trade and the limited editions contain the
complete text as Koontz intended it to be published. The trade edition
hardcover and the limited have identical dustjackets; the difference being that
the limited edition was issued with a slipcase and a different binding,
including a signed limitation page. The lettered edition was issued without a
dustjacket and housed in a wooden slipcase. Both limited editions are fairly
difficult to locate, but the trade hardcover is not tough to find. The trade
edition is usually reasonably priced, but the numbered is proportionately more
expensive and the lettered is to the higher end of the casual collector's
range. It was revised and reissued in paperback under Koontz's name by Berkley
Books in 1992.
You have the first paperback edition if it states
"First Pocket Books printing May, 1982"
and the number series "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1"
is printed on the copyright page.
