The limited edition of this book ranks as one of the more impressive. It was
released with a beautiful Don Brautigam dustjacket and slipcase, with inner
illustrations by Phil Parks. Despite its scarcity it has not grown in value, a
problem that seems to plague all of Dean's Putnam limited editions. I'm aware
of no good reason for this. The trade first edition is plentiful and should be
easy to locate and fairly inexpensive. This title was made into a film starring
Jeff Goldblum, Christine Lahti and Alicia Silverstone, released in 1995.
You have the first trade hardback edition if there is
a $22.95 price on the upper inside front of the dustjacket,
the date code "9201" just above the barcode
on the lower inside front of the dustjacket,
and if the number series
"1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10"
appears beneath
"Printed in the United States of America"
on the copyright page.
Because Putnam elected to include the ISBN for the trade and the limited
on the copyright page there has always been confusion about whether you own
the limited edition. Be careful when making a purchase. I hope this page
