The paperback is the true first edition of this, the second "Leigh Nichols"
title, and is fairly easy to locate. The trade and the limited edition contain
the complete text as Koontz intended it to be published. The trade edition
hardcover and the limited have identical dustjackets; the difference being that
the limited edition was issued with a slipcase and a different binding,
including a signed limitation page. The lettered edition came with a wooden
traycase and was issued without a dustjacket. Both the trade edition and the
limited edition are fairly difficult to locate, and the lettered is even more
tough to find. The price of the trade edition is usually reasonable but the
price for the limited is to the higher end of the casual collector's range. As
for the lettered edition, break out your wallet. A revised paperback edition
was published under Koontz's name by Berkley in 1996.
You have the paperback first edition if it has a die-cut cover with an eye showing through and if "First Pocket Books printing February, 1981" is printed on the copyright page just above the number series "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1". |
