One of the less common paperbacks. While it is moderately difficult to locate, the price is still within the casual collector's price range. I've included scans of both covers. The first cover was painted by Jack Gaughan, and the cover for later printings was painted by Josh Kirby. I think the Kirby cover is a much better illustration, and it seems much harder to locate. I have only seen the Kirby cover offered for sale twice. Whether or not this increases the value is subjective, but I paid more for the later printing. The story originally appeared as a novella in the January 1968 edition of Fantastic Stories .

You have a first edition paperback if the cover has the Jack Gaughan cover, and if there is no number series on the copyright page.
