The paperback is the true first edition of this title, is moderately difficult to locate, but is usually reasonably priced . A substantially shorter version was originally printed in Venture Science Fiction magazine in August 1970. The Charnel House limited edition is the only edition that contains the complete text as Koontz intended it to be published. The numbered edition is bound in green Japanese cloth and was issued with a tan German Iris linen slipcase. The numbered edition is fairly difficult to locate, and although it is worth every penny, the price is to the higher end of the casual collector's range. The lettered edition is hand sewn and hand bound in lizard skin with a black Morocco leather spine, comes in a traycase bound in black Japanese cloth with a silver stamped black Morocco leather onlay on the top cover, and is exceptionally difficult to find. The scans can not convey the beauty of these volumes. The price is astronomical and would be to the upper range of even the serious collector. Neither limited edition was issued with a dustjacket.
